Grok bot for business works best when you start with one personal Bot doing read-and-draft work, then publish a shared Team Bot for the jobs your whole team repeats, connect it to Slack, and keep every send, purchase and deletion behind approval. That is the rollout order xAI's own docs point to, and it keeps risk low while the Bot learns your processes.

Grok Bot is xAI's agent app. Each Bot is a named AI teammate with memory, skills and routines, working on a persistent cloud computer, shared by all your Bots, with a browser, files and a terminal. xAI's docs say work continues while your laptop is closed. This page covers how a small business would actually deploy it: which Bot type to use, how Slack and connectors work, where logins live, which admin controls you get, and what to automate first.

What Grok bot for business includes

xAI's teams page says Grok Bot gives each person on a team standing Bots for research, operations, documents, browsing and automations. Access depends on plan:

Apps run on macOS, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android. They are clients for chat and approvals. The Bots do the work on each member's hosted cloud computer.

Personal vs shared Bots in Grok bot for business

The biggest setup choice is which Bot type owns each job. Here is how xAI's docs describe the three ways to share work:

QuestionPersonal BotShared Team BotBot template
Who uses itOnly youYour whole team, or invited people and groupsAnyone with the link adds their own copy
Whose apps it usesYoursThe owner's apps and secrets; asks before using yoursThe recipient's own
Who sees chatsYouEach person's chat stays privateNo history is shared
Where it runsYour cloud computer, or your own machineAlways in the cloudRecipient's computer
Whose usage paysYoursThe person it is answeringThe recipient
Vault loginsYesNo; use Secrets insteadNot copied

Shared Bots have two roles. A Collaborator can chat with the Bot. A Manager can also change its instructions, skills, memory and apps. Only the owner can delete a shared Bot, and deleting it removes it for the whole team. More detail sits on our Grok Bot teams page.

Grok bot for business in Slack

After sharing a Bot, the owner or a Manager opens the Bot's details and chooses Bring to your team's Slack. If it says Awaiting admin approval, a Slack workspace admin approves the app. Each teammate links their Slack account under Settings, General, Shared Bots.

In a thread, the shared Bot acts for whoever mentioned it. Risky actions post a Review an action card with Allow once, Deny and View details, and only the person who asked can answer. When a shared Bot's routine replies in a thread, it follows that thread and answers later replies without an @mention.

Two Slack pieces are easy to mix up. The Slack app lets a Bot read and post as the user you connected. A Slack trigger is part of a routine and starts work when the Bot is mentioned, a phrase appears, you react, or any message lands. Keep triggers on one channel and one phrase. Our Grok Bot Slack guide walks through both.

Connectors, logins and Vault in Grok bot for business

Connectors give a Bot a structured way into Gmail, Google Calendar, Sheets, Drive, Slack, Notion, GitHub and more. xAI's docs make four points worth knowing:

Logins, cards and contact details belong in Vault. A Bot never sees a saved password, card number or security code. It signs in with Vault first, then a connected password manager such as 1Password, then a Secure Form. One catch: a card saved in Vault fills in at checkout without asking each time. If you want to approve every payment, do not save the card. Vault is not supported on shared Bots, so team keys go under Secrets. See Grok Bot connectors and Grok Bot Gmail.

Approvals and Auto-review in Grok bot for business

Auto-review is on by default. It checks each action before the Bot runs a command, uses an app or uses its computer. Most actions run. When one needs your OK, you get a card: Allow once, Always allow (saves a rule) or Deny.

Custom Rules sharpen this. Write one short rule per action and choose Ask first or Allow automatically. You get up to 20 of each, and Ask first wins when both match. Good Ask first rules for a business:

Two more built-in safety points: email a routine writes from the Bot's own address waits as a draft until you press Send, and cards raised by background work expire after 30 minutes without acting.

Admin and deployment controls for Grok bot for business

Admins manage Grok Bot from the team dashboard. On Teams and Enterprise you get:

Enterprise only: Enforce Auto-review, team Auto-review rules, Network Controls, Action Recording with OpenTelemetry export, and inference hooks. IT can push the desktop app with Jamf, Kandji, Intune or Ansible. xAI's FAQ says a separate Grok Bot spend cap is not available today, and the Admin API can manage Grok Bot.

What to automate first with Grok bot for business

xAI's advice is to automate preparation before execution. Start with read-and-draft jobs, save the method as a skill, then add a routine. These are illustrations, not customer stories:

Who Grok bot for business fits, and who it doesn't

It fits: small teams already on Slack, Gmail and Google Workspace; owners who repeat the same research, admin and reporting each week; teams that want one shared Bot instead of a copy per person.

It doesn't fit: teams on Privacy Mode (Legacy), which blocks Grok Bot; businesses that need every task kept off the cloud, since shared Bots always run there; owners who need a dedicated Grok Bot spend cap; and teams in the UK, the EU or Australia who want the @bot tag on X, which is not yet available there.

Grok bot for business FAQ

Do I need the Teams plan to use Grok Bot at work?

No. Individuals can use personal Bots. Shared Bots, Slack team installs and admin controls need a team plan.

Can the owner read my chats with a shared Bot?

No. xAI's docs say each person's chat with a shared Bot is private, including from the owner and Managers.

How does Grok Bot handle company logins?

Use Vault or 1Password for logins and Secure Forms for one-off entries. The Bot fills them without seeing the values.

Where should a business start?

One personal Bot, one read-only task, then a skill, then a routine. If you want a plan for your own setup, book a free AI strategy session.
