Grok Bot Windows is xAI's Grok Bot desktop app for Windows PCs, and it installs from a Setup .exe on both x64 and Arm64 machines. You download it, sign in, and run your Bots from a full desktop app with keyboard shortcuts, dictation and desktop notifications. The Bots themselves work on a cloud computer, so your PC is the control room, not the engine.

Grok Bot Windows system requirements
xAI's deployment docs list the desktop app for three systems: macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows (x64 and Arm64) and Linux (x64 and Arm64). On Windows, the only published format is a Setup .exe. There are separate builds for x64 and Arm64 PCs.
You also need an eligible plan. xAI's docs list Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription, legacy paid Cursor plans, a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription, or a seat on a self-serve Grok Business plan.
The PC doesn't run the Bot's browser or shell. xAI's docs say the hosted computer runs Linux in the cloud, one per member. The Windows app handles chat, review and approvals.

How to install Grok Bot on Windows
- Get the installer from x.ai/bot, or from the Download Grok Bot row on the Grok Bot page of the Cursor dashboard. If you don't have dashboard access, ask your admin for the link.
- Run the Setup .exe. xAI's docs say it installs per user, into your own Windows profile.
- Open Grok Bot and choose Sign in. Finish authentication in your browser. There's no separate Grok Bot login, and company single sign-on works as usual.
- If your access comes from SuperGrok or X Premium+, open Settings, then Usage and Billing, and choose Get Access with Grok.
- Click through the intro. Grok Bot creates your first Bot, named Grok Bot, and opens a chat with it.
xAI's get-started guide suggests giving each Bot one primary job in its first message and asking it to remember how it should work.

Windows changes in the Grok Bot changelog
xAI's changelog at x.ai/changelog/bot has a run of Windows-specific fixes. The latest version listed is v0.78.1, dated 27 October 2026. Here are the Windows lines, newest first:
| Version and date | What changed on Windows |
|---|---|
| v0.77.0, 26 Oct 2026 | On Windows and Linux, the Bot notices an installed 1Password app and can offer to connect it. |
| v0.71.2, 14 Oct 2026 | While you use Grok Bot on a Mac or Windows PC, Bot replies and questions notify you there instead of your phone. |
| v0.71.2, 14 Oct 2026 | Pasting text copied from a list keeps it inline instead of splitting it into extra paragraphs. |
| v0.71.2, 14 Oct 2026 | Text copied from a chat keeps non-English characters and curly quotes when pasted into other apps. |
| v0.71.2, 14 Oct 2026 | Opening Grok Bot while it's still quitting reopens it after the quit. |
| v0.67.0, 2 Oct 2026 | Use hardware acceleration is on by default, as on Mac, and a choice you already made is kept. |
| v0.59.0, 25 Sep 2026 | A downloaded update installs when you quit. |
| v0.31.0, 1 Sep 2026 | Images you attach show thumbnails. |
| v0.20.0, 14 Aug 2026 | Press or hold Ctrl+D to dictate into the message field. |
Updates on Windows
The Windows app checks for updates on its own. In Settings, then Updates, you see the installed version, plus Check for Updates and Restart to Update.
Automatic Updates is on by default. xAI's docs say a downloaded update then installs while you're away: your screen is locked or the screensaver is on, the PC has been idle for at least 10 minutes, and Grok Bot isn't busy. Since v0.59.0, a downloaded update also installs when you quit the app.
You can't switch updates off completely. The deployment docs say no device policy, installer option or dashboard setting turns off desktop updates on Windows. Old builds eventually show Update required across the whole window until you update. Your Bots keep running in the cloud while you do.

Windows hardware acceleration, dictation and shortcuts
Use hardware acceleration lets your graphics card draw the app. It's on by default on Windows. If the window flickers or stays blank, turn it off under Settings, System, then choose Restart Now.
Dictation is one key away. Press or hold Ctrl+D while the prompt is focused to talk instead of type. For a live conversation, choose Start voice chat in the composer.
Useful Windows shortcuts from xAI's docs:
- Ctrl+K: jump to or search anything
- Ctrl+N: new Bot
- Ctrl+Shift+N: new group chat
- Ctrl+Shift+M: connect apps
- Ctrl+Alt+B: conversation details
- Ctrl+/: show every shortcut
- F11: fullscreen

Grok Bot notifications move to your Windows PC
When you work at a Windows PC, your phone goes quiet for your own Bots. xAI's docs say the app counts as in use while it's open and signed in, the screen is unlocked, you've used the computer recently, and Windows lets Grok Bot show banners. In that state, finished replies skip your phone. If a Bot needs your input, your phone gets a nudge about 3 minutes later unless you open that Bot first.
A focused window stays quiet only for the Bot on screen. Other Bots still show a desktop notification. Since v0.77.0, desktop notifications close once you read the reply. See Grok Bot Android and Grok Bot iOS for the phone side.
Your Windows PC vs the Bot's cloud computer
The cloud computer is where Bots browse, fill forms and run commands. Your Windows PC is separate. xAI's docs say a Bot only runs commands on your local computer when that is enabled and approved under Execution on this computer: Ask every time (the default), Always allow or Never allow. xAI's own advice is to use Never allow unless a Bot has a specific reason to work on your local files.
A few Windows details from the docs:
- Windows Hello and passkeys saved on your laptop don't work on the Bot's computer. For those sign-ins, take over the computer and use a method your company allows.
- Hardware security keys like a YubiKey can be used from your PC. Use hardware security keys is on by default on Windows.
- Route traffic through this computer sends the cloud computer's web traffic through your PC, so sites see your PC's IP address.
For the full breakdown of what the Bot does on its computer, read Grok Bot computer use.
Deploying Grok Bot to Windows PCs at work
xAI's deployment guide covers company rollouts:
- Push the Setup .exe with Intune, Configuration Manager or another software distribution tool.
- Install silently with the /S switch.
- Deploy in user context, not as SYSTEM, because the installer installs per user.
- Test on a pilot device first, and keep a pinned copy of the version you tested.
Behind a corporate gateway, check the proxy docs. xAI says TLS-inspecting proxies such as Zscaler can let chat through but break the connection to the hosted computer, so the app hangs during computer setup. The v0.75.2 changelog also says the desktop app connects directly unless you've turned on a system proxy.
Using a Mac too? See Grok Bot Mac. For running a team of agents across a business, read the Agent OS guide, and check Goldie Bench to see how models compare.
